Torrelavega, as path crossing is a natural meeting and exchange point. The National Cattle Market, established 300 years ago, is an industrial and social heritage with potential to be the keystone of the productive city.
The understanding of the traditional management of the territory has become the starting point for a progressive and paused transition from the current ecological and resource crisis towards a closed cycle model that tends to local self-sufficiency. Citizens have a key role in this process, (from farmers to researchers and consumers) which has to be inter-generational and allow new generations and current actors to lead it.
Reprograming the market will help to promote it in a triad of shared and complementary uses:
A livestock cluster, as a production hub, implementing the new installations of The Gate, where the friction between the different actors (farmers, researchers, administration and enterprises) will benefit the evolution towards a new agricultural paradigm.
A mobility hub, that provides services both to the market and citizens. Its strategic location and the implementation of clean energies, aim to articulate a better mobility locally and within the conurbation.
An Agora, a public sheltered space that revalue la Cuadrona and provides an opportunity of individual and collective appropriation, and therefore the appreciation of the space and its diverse activities. The main hall will become a public crossing that will shorten the distance between the neighbourhoods, and therefore the neighbours.
La Cuadrona is a cattle market, a trading spot, a production space, a dancing floor, a place to share, a research center, a coworking space, a meeting point, a pioneer center for animal welfare, a cool hangout, a sunny deck, a mobility hub, a clean energy generator, a sports hall, a showroom, a concert hall, a milky room. La Cuadrona is what you want it to be.
